Zweidimensionale Scanner (auch Imager oder Reader genannt) sind in der Lage, neben 1D-Codes verschiedene Typen von 2D-Codes zu lesen. Welcher 2D-Codetyp Verwendung findet, hängt unter Anderem vom Platzangebot ab. Am weitesten Verbreitung finden aktuell QR-Code und Data Matrix.

Allen Codes in Matrixform ist jedoch gemein, dass sie enorm verkleinert werden können und auch bei Beschädigung noch lesbar sind. Selbst beim Fehlen von bis zu 25% des Codes lässt er sich noch korrekt dechiffrieren.

Da 2D-Scantechnologie komplex und aufwendig ist, bremste die Preislage von 2D-Geräten anfangs deren Verbreitung. Technische Neuerungen haben diese Situation deutlich verbessert. Wir empfehlen deshalb heute, den Kauf eines 2D-Scanners grundsätzlich in Betracht zu ziehen.

Two-dimensional scanners (also called imagers or readers) are able to read different types of 2D codes in addition to 1D codes. Which 2D code type is used depends, among other things, on the available space. QR code and Data Matrix are currently most widespread.

What all codes in matrix form have in common, however, is that they can be enormously reduced in size and are still legible even if damaged. Even if up to 25% of the code is missing, it can still be deciphered correctly.

Because 2D scanning technology is complex and costly, the price level of 2D devices initially slowed their spread. Technical innovations have significantly improved this situation. Therefore, we recommend today to consider the purchase of a 2D scanner as a matter of principle.
